Plans for “Day of Europe” Celebration 2011 in Sumy

Multicultural New Year Celebrations


December 2010 till January 3, 2011 - CEI representatives participated in an international holiday celebration with others from Ukraine, Poland and Germany, sharing with each other their cultural traditions that celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays and special occasions.

European Educational Week for Young Sumy Students


During 12-18 November 2010, the NGO Centre for European Initiatives presented European youth education programs and talked about studying abroad. The meetings took place during European Education Week in Ukraine, which is held under the auspices of the Network of European Information Centers and is supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.

Project «LOVEAT» with Euro Clubs


During the week 10-18 November 2010, ten members from Euro Clubs in Sumy travelled to Poland as participants in a project called “LOVEAT” to share culinary traditions with students from Poland and Germany. Representatives from Sumy were from Secondary Schools № 1, 25, 29, School Number 1 and the Chairman of the Gymnasium.

November 5, 2010 – Deputy Director of the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library at SSU, Natalia Dmytrakova, along with Anna Kovbasiuk, Director of CEI and CEI’s Youth Project Manager, Julia Sakunova, met to summarize the results of the European Information Center’s 2009-2010 activities. European Day of Languages Celebrated!

September 30, 2010 – Sumy youth attended the European Day of Languages event, which was organized by the leadership and volunteers at CEI in cooperation with the European Information Centre at Sumy State University. The purpose was to motivate the students to learn EU foreign languages in an innovative and fun way.

Volunteerism Does Not Sleep


In September 2010 young people from Ukraine, Germany, the Czech Republic and Georgia participated in the youth exchange program, "Volunteerism - Citizenship in Action.” The exchange program took place in Crimea (Ukraine). CEI organized the event, with the financial support of the Youth in Action Programme of the European Union.

Youth Learn “3C” Communication Methods


6-8 August 2010 – Members of the young intellectual elite of Ukraine met in Kyiv for a three-day leadership training seminar called "3C: Conscious Community Communication". Participants from ten regions of the state (Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Ternopil, Rivne, Odessa and Chernovtsy) learned to communicate not just consciously, but to consciously listen to each other. 2010 Summer Camp EXCITE a Great Success!


Camp EXCITE was held July 19-23 in a beautiful campsite near the town of Kurgen on the Psol River. The majority of the 43 high school students attending were from Sumy schools, but there were also students from Konotop, Billipellia, Kharkiv, Lebedyne, and one visiting student from Russia. Twelve Peace Corps Volunteers, three teachers from Sumy schools, three university students, and one medical nurse accompanied the participants. Students were interviewed prior to going to judge their motivation and English-speaking ability.

Week of Creativity in Germany


July 8-18 2010 – The Youth Center, Hirshlyuh (Shtorkov, Germany), was the site of the annual Week of Creativity. Attending were 45 young, talented people from Ukraine, Poland and Germany who gathered to enjoy a cultural experience of art and creativity. The event was organized in association with the Youth Care and Social Work (Fyurstenvalde, Germany) and partners, Centre for European Initiatives (Sumy, Ukraine) and the Happy Childhood Foundation (Lublin, Poland).
