Camp Excite – Healthy Lifestyles


From 13-18 July 67 pupils, students, teachers, and Peace Corps volunteers participated in Camp Excite – Healthy Lifestyles. Situated in the forests near Kurgan, it was the first overnight Camp Excite. Participants slept in tents, cooked over an open fire, and learned about healthy living. Participants came from Sumy and Sumy region, Krasnopillia, Okhtirka, and Chernihiv.

A chance for a tolerant society


The first Ukrainian training "Camp of Tolerance" was held 6 - 10 July at a recreation facility not far from the oblast center. It was conducted by NGO Center for European Initiatives, and supportef by a Democracy grant from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

Annual Euroclub camp "EUROPLEINAIR – 2009"


31 May - 1 June Sumy Euroclub’s "Europleinair" was a traditional campout, held on the territory of "Green Woods."

The main purpose of this “EuroPleinair” was to use non-formal education to support Euroclub initiatives, to conclude the 2008/2009 school year, and to encourage further activity and collaboration among Euroclubs.


School Debate Tournament "Ukraine in the European Integration Process"


A school debate tournament "Ukraine in the European Integration Process" was held at Sumy State University on June 5, 2009. Sumy State University Euroclub and the Sumy University Library Debate Club, with support from the Ukrainian Association of European Studies, and Sumy Center for European Information, conducted the project.

Sumy Celebrates Days of Europe


This year the celebration marking Days of Europe was held 16-17May, thanks to Sumy NGO Center for European Initiatives and Sumy and educational institutions. It was supported by the European Commission to Ukraine and the Council of Europe in Ukraine, in cooperation with the Sumy Regional Department of Education and Science.

Eco Sumy: The Cleanliness of The City – It’s in Our Hands


February, 27 through March 1, 2009 Sumy City NGO, Center for European Initiatives will conduct a training for school and university teachers on the topic of increasing the ecological consciousness of youth. This project is financed by the United States Peace Corps, and is supported by the Sumy Regional Teachers Postgraduate Institute; Sumy Regional State Ecological Inspection; SumyKomuntrans, LTD; and the Sumy Regional State Administration Department of Science and Education.

What citizens of Sumy know, and how they feel, about the relationship between Ukraine and NATO and the EU: presentation of survey results


On 6 February 2009, in the assembly hall of the Sumy Regional Scientific Library, a press conference will take place to present the results of sociological research conducted among the citizens of Sumy region about their knowledge and attitude toward integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO. This survey was organized by Sumy NGO Center for European Initiatives, and supported by the International Renaissance Foundation, with expert support from Sumy NGO Fund for Regional Research.

Boosting Creativity and Innovation in Europe: Official launch of the European Year 2009 in Prague


The Czech Presidency of the EU and the European Commission launched on Wednesday the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 with the slogan “Imagine. Create. Innovate.” The Year was inaugurated during a ceremony in Prague by Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek. The aim of the Year is to promote creative and innovative approaches in different sectors of human activity and help equip the European Union for the challenges ahead in a globalized world.

The opening of European Year of Creativity and Innovation (2009) in Ukraine will take place in Dnipropetrovs’k


Euroclubs from different regions of Ukraine will be the first to mark the launch the European Year of Creativity and Innovation – 2009 in Ukraine. Launching of the Year will take place in the Dnipropetrovs’k region as part of a project of the NGO "Ukrainian Association of the European Studies," with support from the Representative Office of the European Commission in Ukraine.
