A chance for a tolerant society

The first Ukrainian training "Camp of Tolerance" was held 6 - 10 July at a recreation facility not far from the oblast center. It was conducted by NGO Center for European Initiatives, and supportef by a Democracy grant from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

Pupils, students, activists, NGO representatives, and teachers worked with trainers from different regions of Ukraine using technologies and methods of informal education for youth, for teaching tolerance to the youth, as well as helping them to create and realize their own projects.

Anna Yaremenko (Sumy): "...this training enabled us to understand that humanity draws attention to stereotypes but does not even try to recognize the problems surrounding them... there are many types of people who are exposed to aggression and discrimination, they need attention and support and actually, now I know how I will be able to help them..."

Vera Sitalo (Okhtyrka, Sumy region): "...the next step of the tolerance camp, an important step, is an opportunity to change our surroundings, and do some work for the future..."

Marianna Mykhailyuk (Lviv): "... informal education is the future of civil society. I love Ukraine and am ready to work to make it better."

Ignorance breeds fear, aggression and lack of confidence, apathy, irritability, helplessness, discrimination! Think how often you encounter this? Indeed, "tolerance" - is what our society lacks.

"Be, Have, Act" – components of life. Act openly, tactfully, politely, with tolerance to others – it is difficult, but possible.

Therefore, be tolerant!
