Childhood in World War II

Goal – to bring to the attention of Sumy youth, pages of the lives of children during World War II.


  • Teach children survey methodology in the context of a study of collective memory;
  • Create conditions for implementing a survey in practice;
  • Process and organize collected data;
  • Present results of the project to a wide audience and the media;
  • Create an exhibition to inform residents and visitors of Sumy about the results of the project.

Project methodology - collecting oral histories. Systematic collection of testimonies of people’s lives and experience. Not gossip or folklore, but an audio record or videotape of human memories and unique life experiences.

Period of implementation: January - May 2009.

  • Oblast Department of Education and Science.
