Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24 "Save Lake Durova!"

Project: "Save Lake Durova!"

Project creators: Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24, project coordinator Oksana Korenyeva.

Goal: For pupils of Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24 to clean the banks of Lake Durova of household waste during April 2009.

Objectives: To involve pupils and teachers in clearing the banks and monitoring the results, as well as preserving the ecological condition of Lake Durova as an informative-educational methodology for pupils of Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24 and residents of the neighborhood.

Target audience: Pupils of grades 7 and 8 at Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24, students, parents, residents of the neighborhood.

Summary: From early April to late May 2009 pupils of Sumy Comprehensive School No. 24 together with their teachers implemented their environmental project "Save Lake Durova!" The aim was to conduct an environmental training for the school, the elimination of a natural waste disposal site on the banks of the lake, and regular control of the territory.

During the project they conducted an environmental training for the school, developed and distributed information leaflets to people in the neighborhood, and held a campaign to eliminate a natural waste disposal site on the banks of the lake, which actively attracted not only students but residents of the micro-region. During the training pupils gained skills in sorting household waste and took part in the poster competition "Preserve Nature." By participating in the project the pupils learned to treat the environment carefully.
